IN THE CLASSROOM

PG-13

This play could be used in a mature high school classroom.  In a younger or less mature class the play would not be understood (not necessarily for lack of endowment, but for lack of interest).  The depth of emotion in the characters may not be recognized by the students.  A mature class has the potential to develop critical ideas and themes found in the play.  A less mature audience would be bored with the lack of action and the drama of everything going on.  Also the aspects of drug and alcohol abuse might be glamorized by an immature, or youthful, audience.  When presenting this play to a class it would be best to introduce the author first.  This will allow the students to understand the play and the emotion behind the drama.  Of the many elements in the play to discuss one of the more accessible is the setting.  A class discussion of this might be profitable to students.

Once a relationship has been built with the author, they will better understand his story for it is based upon real life experiences.
